Mastercard: what to know before you pay by card
Mastercard works in a cashier much like other cards, so this page covers what people ask about less often: whether your card is debit or credit, how disputing a card payment differs from withdrawing, and what to do if your card is replaced. Whether Mastercard is available in the Fenikss cashier or elsewhere, check the cashier itself.
The set of methods and the limits depend on the operator and the account — check the cashier.
Debit or credit
With a debit card you play with money already in your account. With a credit card you play with money the bank has lent you and you will have to repay. Some banks and operators restrict credit-card payments for gambling or require extra approval. Even where it is technically possible, gambling on credit is a bad idea: a loss becomes a debt. Control tools are on Responsible gambling.
Approval in your bank app
Most modern cards use 3-D Secure — an extra step where you approve the payment in your bank app or with a code. If the app shows an amount or payee you did not expect, reject it. If the window closed before you approved, the payment does not go through and you can try again.
Deposit and withdrawal
| Question | Deposit | Withdrawal |
|---|---|---|
| Who starts it | You, in the cashier | You, approved by the operator |
| Approval | 3-D Secure at your bank | Account and document checks |
| Where money goes | Playing balance | Card or bank account — depends on the cashier |
If card payouts are not possible, money is sent by transfer to an account in your name. More on Withdrawals.
A chargeback is not a withdrawal
Some players dispute a card payment with their bank after losing. That is not a way to recover losses: disputes are meant for unauthorised or mistaken payments, and operators usually freeze the account while a dispute is open. If a payment truly was not yours, call your bank at once and replace the card.
Before your first Mastercard deposit
- Check in your bank app that online payments are allowed and what the daily limit is.
- Make sure the name on the card matches the name on your casino account.
- Find out in the cashier whether payouts to this card are possible or will go to an account.
- If there is a bonus tick-box, decide deliberately — a bonus can block payouts until wagering is met.
If your card changes
If the card expires or is replaced, a payout to the old card may fail. Tell support and, if needed, upload proof of the new card or bank account. Alternatives are pay by bank or Visa; all methods are in Payments.
