Self-exclusion: Latvia’s register and how to prepare
Self-exclusion is the step people take when limits no longer help. In Latvia it is done through the self-excluded persons register (Pašatteikušos personu reģistrs), maintained since 1 April 2026 by VID, the State Revenue Service. Until then supervision sat with IAUI; the register continued after the transfer. If you live elsewhere, look for your own country’s equivalent.
The register at a glance
- Run by: VID, the State Revenue Service.
- Minimum term: 12 months.
- Where to apply: on VID’s page vid.gov.lv — Pašatteikušos personu reģistrs, which describes the current procedure.
- Purpose: licensed gambling organisers should not accept bets from people on the register.
We do not spell out the application steps because they may change; rely on VID’s page. It is in Latvian, so a translation tool or a friend may help.
Before you apply: balance and payouts
This is a cashier question people forget. If you have money in a casino account or a withdrawal pending, ask the operator what will happen to it after you join the register and how to get it out. The practical route is to request the payout first and wait until it shows as Sent. Finish verification if it is incomplete — otherwise the payout may stall. How statuses work: Withdrawals.
Preparing for the decision
Self-exclusion is a serious step, and that is its strength: it cannot be undone in one evening when temptation peaks. Before applying, it helps to write down why you are doing it and tell someone you trust. If you have accounts with several operators, list them and check each balance. Bonus funds usually cannot be withdrawn — what matters is real money and pending payouts.
What self-exclusion does not do
- It does not deal with debts or other consequences — those need other help.
- It works within the system of licensed organisers; sites outside it may ignore it. Bank-level restrictions, if your bank offers them, add another layer.
- It is not a punishment; it is a tool you choose.
Other tools
- Deposit and loss limits in your casino account.
- A timeout with a specific operator.
- Card limits and notifications in your bank app.
